The jobo is a medium to large deciduous tree of the cashew family, with small buttresses at the base and grey or chestnut bark studded with hard, cork-like crests that look like spines. It bears pinnate leaves and long sprays of small, fragrant white flowers, sometimes with as many as 2,000 flowers to a panicle, followed by loose bunches of golden-yellow, plum-like fruits. The tree drops all its leaves in the dry season and sprouts readily from cuttings, which makes it a favourite for living fence posts.
