White Banyan

A huge evergreen fig with horizontal branches, a fluted trunk and aerial roots that descend from the limbs and thicken into secondary trunks once they reach the ground, so that a single tree can spread into a small grove. It often begins life as an epiphyte and eventually engulfs its host. The glossy leathery leaves cluster at the branch tips, and small red or orange figs feed birds.
