Fun factThe genus name Tecoma is shortened from the Nahuatl name tecomaxochitl, meaning tubular flower.
Yellow bells is a shrub or small tree of the trumpet-vine family, native to Costa Rica and much of tropical America. It carries clusters of bright yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers at the branch tips, each with fine red lines in the throat, and bees, butterflies and hummingbirds come to the nectar. Long, slender pods follow the flowers, turning from green to brown before splitting to release flat, papery, winged seeds carried off by the wind.
