A solitary, slow-growing date palm with a slender trunk, swollen at the base and patterned with old leaf scars, carrying a dense crown of up to a hundred stiff blue-green to silvery fronds. It is distinguished from the commercial date palm by its silvery foliage. In India its sap is tapped from the cut flower stalks and fermented into toddy or boiled down into palm jaggery.
