A small evergreen tree with a dense, spreading crown, a short low-branching trunk with smooth brown bark, and long, glossy, tapering leaves. Large white pom-pom flowers with a brush of stamens are followed by round to egg-shaped, whitish to yellow fruits crowned by the persistent calyx, whose crisp flesh smells and tastes of rosewater. It is widely naturalised in the tropics and is flagged for caution in south and central Florida.
