Roseodendron donnell-smithii (Rose) Miranda
Southern Mexico to Honduras
Fun factThe pale, lustrous wood was compared to satinwood and was once sold as white mahogany.
A large deciduous tree of the trumpet-creeper family, grown as a timber tree in its native range and as an ornamental across the tropics. It drops its leaves in the dry season and then flowers on the bare branches, covering the crown in bright lemon-yellow trumpets. The trunk is pale, whitish gray, later furrowed. Trees take five to ten years to flower for the first time, sparsely at first and more heavily with age.
