FamilyBixaceae
EspañolRosa amarillo
AlsoButtercup tree, Poro Poro
A fast-growing deciduous tree of the dry tropics with a stout trunk, attractive grey bark, sparse branching and a rounded crown. Large yellow flowers open in the dry season while the tree is leafless. Egg-sized pods split to release seeds in a mass of silky white fibres.
Sourced · see Record tab Least Concern (IUCN, via GBIF). · IUCN
Worth knowingThe tree flowers best when stressed for water, so gardeners withhold irrigation to encourage a heavier display of its large yellow blooms on the bare branches.
