A vigorous evergreen woody climber from Brazil, with curved thorns on its stems, that sprawls over fences, walls and pergolas. The true flowers are small, white and tubular; the colour comes from the papery bracts around them, in shades of pink, purple and red. It is drought resistant once established and flowers best in full sun.

Sourced · see Record tab Least Concern (LC) on the IUCN Red List. · IUCN
Worth knowingWhat look like the flowers are modified leaves (bracts); the real flowers are the small white tubes at their centre.
