A massive evergreen fig from eastern Australia, capable of reaching 50 m, with a heavily buttressed trunk, widely spreading branches and aerial roots that may hang to the ground and form secondary trunks. The large leathery leaves are glossy dark green above and brownish beneath. In the wild it often begins life as an epiphyte on another tree, sending roots down until it replaces its host.
