The mango is a large evergreen fruit tree of the cashew family, with a dense, rounded crown of long, leathery leaves. Its flowers are tiny and borne in large branched panicles at the shoot tips, and the fruit is a fleshy drupe around a single flattened seed, varying by variety from nearly round to oblong and from green to yellow, orange or purple. Mangos have been cultivated in India for more than 4,000 years and remain one of the most widely grown tropical fruits.
