Honduran Mahogany

A long-lived, slow-growing evergreen hardwood that can reach 35–40 m with a girth of 3–4 m. Its pinnate leaves flush pink or red before turning dark green, and it bears small fragrant white flowers followed by large woody capsules that split to release winged seeds. It is the source of the mahogany timber prized for furniture, and is listed in CITES Appendix II because of over-exploitation.
