A large evergreen fig with a dense rounded canopy and gracefully drooping branches clothed in small glossy leaves. Familiar as a houseplant, in the open tropics it becomes a massive tree with surface roots and aerial roots that descend to form extra trunks. Its tiny flowers are hidden inside the figs and pollinated by specialised fig wasps.
