A solitary, medium-sized fan palm from Cuba with a large crown of waxy, bluish-green to silvery fronds. The smooth grey trunk is lightly ringed with old leaf scars and often carries a skirt of dead leaves. In Cuba the leaves are woven into hats and baskets and used for thatch, and the hard stems are used for fence posts.
