A tall, slender, solitary palm without spines, with a ringed grey trunk that can reach about 30 m. Its feather leaves are around 3.5 m long with leaflets held in several planes, giving a plumose, foxtail-like look. Small oblong fruits ripen yellow to dark brown and are eaten by wildlife.
