A tangelo-type citrus that originated as a chance seedling in Jamaica. The fruit is large and broadly obovoid with a short furrowed neck and a dull yellowish-orange, bumpy, leathery rind that peels loosely. Inside are about twelve segments of tender, very juicy orange flesh with a rich, subacid flavour and few seeds. The tree is upright-spreading and mandarin-like in appearance.

Worth knowingThe name comes from Canadian markets, where it was referred to as the 'ugly' citrus fruit; the Jamaican exporter G.G.R. Sharp trademarked the spelling 'Ugli' when he began exporting it around 1934.
