Danci Mandarin

A small evergreen tree, sometimes spiny, 2–8 m tall, with glossy leaves on winged stalks and fragrant white flowers in the leaf axils. The fruit is a flattened globe 5–8 cm across with a thin, loose orange peel that is easily removed, and sweet, juicy pulp. It is cultivated worldwide for its edible fruit. 'Dancy' is one of the oldest tangerine varieties in Florida, arising in 1867 from a seed in Colonel Dancy's grove at Orange Mills; it makes a large, vigorous, upright, nearly thornless tree with deep reddish-orange, thin-skinned, easily peeled fruit.
