Butterfly Bush Purple

Scientific name to confirm
EspañolRabo de allacran
AlsoButterfly bush (as recorded)

No scientific name given. 'Butterfly bush' with purple flowers in Costa Rican gardens most often refers to a porterweed (Stachytarpheta cayennensis or S. jamaicensis, Verbenaceae), while the Spanish name recorded, 'Rabo de alacrán' (scorpion's tail), is usually applied to Heliotropium species (Boraginaceae), which have white flowers. GBIF vernacular-name records for both Stachytarpheta species do not include 'rabo de alacrán', so the identity could not be confirmed from allowed sources. Needs inspection of the plant before a species is assigned.
