An upright, spreading deciduous tree of temperate and Mediterranean climates, with lance-shaped, toothed dark green leaves. Scented pink or white blossom opens on the bare branches in early spring, before the leaves, and is followed by oval, velvety green fruits whose stone contains the edible almond kernel.
